Privacy Policy

Who we are

MyPets is operated by Artur Harutyunyan, a sole proprietor based in Yerevan, Armenia ("MyPets", "we"). We are the controller of the data described here. Contact details are at the end of this page. This policy covers both the MyPets app (iOS and Android) and the mypets.am website.

What we collect in the app

Everything below is either provided by you or generated while the app runs. We do not buy data about you from anyone.

• Account: first name, last name, email and password (stored only as a hash). When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive only your name and email from them.
• A profile photo, if you add one.
• Pet profiles: name, species, breed, sex, date of birth, weight, notes and photos.
• Community posts: lost-pet alerts and mating requests, including the contact phone number, last-seen location and description you enter. These are public — that is how other owners can help.
• Addresses you type: when you search for a location in a lost-pet report, the text you type is sent through our server to Google Maps Platform to return address suggestions. Google receives only the search text, nothing about your account.
• Comments, reactions and photos you leave under other people's posts.
• Favorites and reviews you leave for places in the directory.
• Reports and blocks you make against other users' content.
• Device data: a push-notification token and an installation identifier, so we can send lost-pet alerts to your phone, plus the app version and platform so updates are delivered correctly.
• Usage analytics: the app runs Google Analytics for Firebase. It receives an anonymous identifier (the app instance ID and, on iOS, Apple's vendor identifier, which is specific to your MyPets installation and is not an advertising identifier), your device model, operating-system version, language, approximate region (derived from IP, no precise location), the names of screens you open and the type of action you take — for example "pet added", "place opened", "search performed". Nothing personal is sent: no name, email, phone number, pet names, comment text or search text (for searches only the length of the text is sent). This data is not linked to your account. We do not currently collect crash reports.
• Location: the app asks for your location only while you are using it, to show how far away places are and to open the map around you. Your precise coordinates are not sent to our servers; distances are calculated on your phone. The map itself is loaded from Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on Android, and that provider can see which area of the map you are viewing.

What we collect on the website

On mypets.am we collect data only when you fill in a form yourself, and for statistics.

• Waitlist: name, email, pet type and city, when you sign up to hear about the app launch. Used for that one purpose only.
• Partner form: business name, contact person, phone, email and city, when a clinic, groomer or other venue applies to be listed in the app. Used only to get in touch with you and list your business.
• Website statistics: we use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, which use cookies to record the pages you visit, your device type, browser, approximate region and how you interact with the site (for example scrolling and clicks). IP addresses are truncated, and this data is not linked to your name or to anything you enter in a form.

Why we use it

We use your data to run the app: to sign you in, show your pets, publish your posts in the community sections, deliver comments and reactions, send the push notifications you allowed, deliver app updates, and answer your questions. We also use it to keep the community safe: to review reports, enforce blocks and remove content that breaks the Terms of Use.

Usage analytics tell us which features are used, where people get stuck and what is worth improving. We only look at it in aggregate and never use it to study an individual person's behaviour.

We do not use your data for advertising, do not build advertising profiles, do not share it with ad networks, and do not sell or rent it to anyone.

What is public

Lost-pet alerts and mating requests — together with your display name, profile photo and the phone number you put in the post — are visible to every user of the app. Comments and reactions are visible to everyone who can see the post. Pet profiles are private unless you post about them. Only add a phone number if you are happy for other owners to call it.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the services that run MyPets, and only as much as they need. None of them may use your data for their own purposes beyond what their own privacy policy states:

• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivers push notifications; receives your push token.
• Google Analytics for Firebase — receives the anonymous usage analytics from the app described above.
• Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity — anonymous website statistics, on mypets.am only.
• Apple and Google — when you choose "Sign in with Apple" or "Continue with Google".
• Apple Maps (iOS) and Google Maps (Android) — load the map inside the app and can see which area of the map is displayed.
• Google Maps Platform — receives, via our server, the address search text you type in order to return suggestions.
• Expo (EAS Update) — delivers app updates; when the app starts it receives the platform, app version and an anonymous installation identifier.
• Our hosting provider — stores the database and uploaded photos on servers we control.
• Public authorities — only where the law requires it, for example under a valid court order.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your profile, pets, posts, comments, reactions, favorites and reviews are deleted permanently within 30 days; backups are overwritten within 90 days. Reports you filed and blocks you made are kept in anonymised form so that moderation decisions still make sense. Server logs are kept for up to 12 months.

App usage analytics are kept in Firebase for 2 months, after which only aggregated reports remain, with no device identifier. Website statistics are kept for up to 2 months in Google Analytics; Microsoft Clarity keeps session recordings for 30 days and aggregated heatmaps for up to 9 months. Waitlist and partner-form data is kept until we have contacted you and your request is closed, or until you ask us to delete it.

Your rights

You can view and edit your profile and pets in the app at any time. You can delete your account from Profile → Delete account; that removes everything, and you do not need to write to us. You can also ask us to export, correct or delete your data — including waitlist or partner-form entries — by writing to the address below. Under the Armenian Law on Protection of Personal Data you also have the right to object to processing and to complain to the Personal Data Protection Agency.

To be straightforward about usage analytics: the app does not yet have a separate switch to turn it off, and your phone's advertising settings do not affect it. The data is anonymous and does not identify you. Adding a switch is on our roadmap, and we will update this page when it ships. On the website you can block statistics cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them.

Push notifications

Lost-pet alerts and replies to your posts arrive as push notifications only if you allowed them when the app asked. You can turn them off at any time in your phone's settings; the app works without them.

Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. App updates are digitally signed, and your phone installs only what we have signed. Only the people who operate the service have access to production data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Children

MyPets is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will show a notice in the app and update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use MyPets after that means you accept the updated policy.
